LESSONS LEARNED
As, I look back, on a life time of experience, I feel I have learned so much, and come so far. I have had many learning experiences that have helped shaped the man I am today. You know, they say you learn by imitation, and if that’s true, I learned from the best. My Dad, is a true Hero, an example, a man to look to up. I can honestly say, I would not be half the man I am today without his guidance.
There was one thing I could always count on.. My Dad …coach, teacher, friend, and protector.. All the important roles in my life. But most simply, he gave, his energy, his heart, his love, and his time. I’m sure it would have been very easy to say “I’m too busy, or I just didn’t have the time”. My Dad, was plenty busy, but he always “made the time”. To this day, he still makes the time to come by and say hello every day.
Over a life time, Dad was always there when I needed him. Like a compass to point me in the right direction, In good times and bad He did not waiver. He has always been there when times got rough to give me a little nudge, or a kick in the butt if needed, to help me stay on course.
Always there to talk to, or sometimes, just to listen.. He Didn’t always agree with me, and was quick to share the benefit of his many years…but he always let me say my piece. He shared in my many victories and was there in my defeats. He let me know it was good to win, but O.K. to fail.
He not only showed me what is was to be a good Dad, but by his example he also taught me what is was to be a good son. I have set many goals in life, to own a big business, to acquire great wealth, and to buy a big house. But in retrospect, if I can just be thought of as a great father (just like my Dad) by my kids, I will consider myself a success and my life well lived. They say you are a lucky man if you have a few true friends, and that is true. Well then I can only consider myself blessed to have a Dad, like you.
