IF I COULD READ YOUR MIND

IF I COULD READ YOUR MIND

Have you ever thought how fun it would be, to be able to read other people’s minds. Or maybe, not ? Weather you call it E.S.P., telepathy, mind reading, voodoo, sixth sense, or whatever; I know we’ve all thought about it. Frankly, I have enough trouble dealing with what’s on my own mind, forget about delving into what’s going on in some other guys noodle. Anyway, I’m intrigued with the whole idea of this ”mental eves dropping”. I’m not sure how the mechanics of the thing would work. Would we just hear the other dudes thoughts like words, or just sort of mentally know what he is thinking. I’m pretty darn sure that no one just sees “thought balloons” floating out of other people’s heads, like on the cartoons.

I’m not sure if this whole mind reading thing is that far fetched. After all, we communicate by language which is essentially little more than sending vibrations thru the air. These vibrations resonate within our ear and we translate the sounds back to words. If you think about it, wouldn’t it be theoretically possible for us to pick up the electrical impulses that accompany thought, and thereby “read” someone else’s mind ? Some people would find it no more surprising than the fact that we can intercept cell phone messages, radio calls, balance the budget, or even detect what’s being viewed on our neighbor’s computer.

Also, I would wonder if we could just mentally barge right in on someone’s thoughts, or does the other person have to sort of, “let you in”, or answer the door, if you will. Maybe we could just randomly jump in on their frequency and get the “Pay for View” action without their permission. Then there is the whole matter of zeroing in on one person at a time, or is it possible to just tune right in, broadband style, and “presto” everyone’s life is an open book. In that case, I wonder if the other people would know you are synced up, or, are they just hardwired into their own brain cells. Also, if you could just tap right in, what do you do when you walk by somebody and he has this blank look on his face, and your getting “no signal”, or a even a busy signal. You’d have to wonder, if this guy is even broadcasting, or is he not even percolating ? Maybe he needs a jump or something, (I think I left my jumper cables home) I don’t know, I really don’t want to be responsible for that sort of thing.

I’ve heard it said, that we think in words, and dream in pictures. If that’s true, then I wonder if people with a larger vocabulary can think deeper thoughts? And then, there is the issue of the language barrier. I’m sure people that speak Spanish, think in Spanish thoughts (now I’ll need a translator or 2 years of high school Spanish to read their minds) And does that lend any credence to the phrase ..” I’m just talk’in to my self “ ?

Any way you look at it, I think I would be cool if I could read other people’s minds (of course, I’d want that to be a one way connection). I definitely wouldn’t want an open party line into my noggin… ( believe me, this would be for your own protection). The human mind can be a scary place. Which leads me to the question: do men and women think differently ? I think on some level the male mind has got to be a little more focused. We just don’t have that many things we think about. Work, Food, Money, Sex, Beer, Sports… Work, Food, Money, Sex, Beer, Sports ..in a continuous loop, with intermittent yet minimal interruptions for the other 97.5 % of life issues.
(SPECIAL BONUS NOTE- After thousand of years of evolution men have dedicated upwards of 12 brain cells to think about all the other issues of life, poetry, politics, sensitive issues, etc: however, they all must wait for a few seconds of down time, when we are not thinking of the 6 prime directives above)

Which also leads me to the question: Have you ever yelled at someone in your mind ? You could be looking right at them, smiling and nodding in agreement, yet, in your mind you are mentally unloading on them. You are thinking one thing in your mind and the complete opposite is coming out of your mouth in the form of words. (that, my friend, is the mental equivalent of patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time). Come on, admit it, haven’t you ever tried to communicate telepathically? Sure you have. Remember ..last time you were on a plane.. you screamed out in your mind, as the big heavy set guy headed your way looking for his seat assignment “don’t sit next to me ..no not there”

Also, have you ever felt ashamed of something you were thinking and just for a moment, hoped like hell, that the other person doesn’t have some kind’a weird telepathic power. Especially when they are just sitting there staring at you, with that knowing look on their face. I think you’d have to agree that some things are just better off unsaid ( or in this case- un-thought).

Some people say they have the ability to read minds. Maybe it’s a dormant ability in all of us, and as we evolve it will become second nature. I could go on here, but if you just meditate (or medicate) for a moment, you can probably guess what I’m thinking anyway. Come to think of it, if you could read my mind, there would be no need to write this article, because you’d already know what I was going to say.

P.I.B.
