LOGIC ?

LOGIC

Ahhh..Logic (reason or sound judgment, as in utterances or actions)…Don’t we wish that our world and daily affairs were ruled by pure logic. But alas we are but mere mortals and at our core, we are ruled by emotion. Our actions and decisions are colored by love, trust, instinct, empathy, passion, pride, anger….as humans, we can’t put these things aside.

Even Spock, the highly logical Vulcan from the series star trek, could not suppress his emotional and human side. It seems that someone left the back door open and perhaps a human mail person found their way into the Spock household. Or perhaps, his father strayed a little, at a logic convention on earth. I think chics dig those pointy ears.. But I digress, back to our logic.

The great philosophers of times gone by prided themselves on their logic. Then again its seems like they had the time to sit and ponder, and carefully test their theories and arguments. It seems today we make our decisions in an accelerated time frame, and often without the opportunity to gather all the facts. We assume our politicians and leaders make their decisions based on logic, but the truth is, they are pretty busy too. So, sometimes they have to rely on committees, aides, and groups know as think tanks to arrive at the basis for their decisions.

Surely our lawyers and judges depend on pure logic to make their rulings and decisions. But you know, they also rely on researchers, juries, case law, and their own interpretation of our laws and constitution. I’m not saying that I’ve ever know a court ruling to be incorrect…except for maybe the whole O.J. thing. Overall it seems that the rule of law and the triers of the facts some times stray from the use of logic.

Come to think of it, logic kind of takes a back seat when we fall in love, buy a car, get in an argument with our parents, spouses, or kids, and a whole myriad of other cases where logic must be suspended (at least for the moment). To make it even more complicated, what I consider to be perfectly logical may seem to make little sense to you (of course you would be wrong..in that case). What is logical and held as fact in one society is radical thinking in another (which is one reason for war) One could also argue that men are more logical than women, but I wouldn’t start that fight. To do so…would be illogical.

Maybe logic, has it place but sometimes a good emotional, shot in the dark works too…Live long and prosper…

Until Latter
